Review "His Bloody Project" by Graeme Macrae Burnet

Review (Helena):

In this book, we follow Roderick Macrae (Roddy), 17 years old, son of a crofter, living in an isolated place, who kills his neighbor and two other people. A century and a half later a researcher investigates the surroundings of this event.

The first thing that I have to say about this book is that it was an amazing idea. The story sounds so real, it looks like we are reading the archive.

The protagonist, Roddy, seems such a genuine person, he knows what he did and asks for no mercy. The description of this character was so detail that we can feel tenderness, gentleness, pitiless and revolt for him. In the end, he just wanted to defend his family.

The structure and design of the book, it's another factor of credibility: the statements, the map, the memories of Roddy, medical reports, trial...
The writing style of the memories was like reading a personal diary with a bonus... the simple language of that time.

All the moments that lead to the final were very well thought, we felt that nothing was left behind.

Rated 5 stars, was a fascinating historical setting around social, political and personal problems/themes.
